GruenHorn du Trichon

Gruenhorn Du Trichon    -  UK Sporthorse Stallion of the Year!

Gruenhorn Du Trichon was a Belgian Warmblood of Westfalian decent who stood in New Zealand in the 1990's.

He was hugely successful as an eventing horse in England where he won the Burghley Young Event Horse class in 1989 and was voted UK Sporthorse Stallion of the Year in 1990.

He evented in the UK to Advanced level.

The New Zealand Chapter...

Mick and Sandy Fryatt imported him into New Zealand and he competed here in Eventing with Mick as well as Dressage with Sandy.  A highlight was winning the Level 4 Musical Freestyle class at the Horse of the Year Show.

Winner of the Young Rider Dressage Classic

With Jody Hartstone the stallion won the NZ National Young Rider Dressage Classic beating several Grand Prix level combinations.

He was exported back to the UK for a brief time before retiring in New Zealand before his death.

The Consummate Allrounder

Gruenhorn du Trichon had an incredibly good temperament, elastic gaits and a classically correct jumping technique.

From an Olympic Family
Breeding wise he is related to the famous Olympic Gold Medalists Ahlerich and Rembrant through his sire Angriff (by Angelo XX)

The Proof is in the Progeny
Gruenhorn Du Trichon sired many good dressage and jumping horses in New Zealand with possibly the most noted being Kiwi Cash who was crowned NZ 4 Year Old Showjumping Champion and 1.40 NZ Indoor Showjumping Champion. He was a Grand Prix and World Cup Showjumper before he retired as a hunter. Kiwi Cash was a stallion for a short time and produced Dunstan Kiwi Iron Mark who was one of the most successful New Zealand Showjumpers of all time, winning classes in North America with Katie Laurie (nee McVean).
